Trump threatens French wine tariff after 'Board of Peace' snub

On Monday, Donald Trump threatened to impose 200 per cent tariffs on French wine and champagne in response to France’s decision to reject the US leader’s invitation to join his “Board of Peace.”

The board was initially established to supervise the reconstruction of war-affected Gaza; however, the charter does not confine its responsibilities to the occupied Palestinian territory. “I will impose a 200 per cent tariff on his wines and champagnes.” He will participate. However, he is not obligated to participate,” Trump stated, alluding to French President Emmanuel Macron.

An informant close to Macron told AFP on Monday that France “does not plan to respond positively” to the invitation.

The board’s charter “extends beyond the exclusive context of Gaza,” a source close to the French president stated.

Trump affirmed that he had extended an invitation to his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, to join his Board of Peace, following a report from Moscow earlier on Monday. Indeed, he has received an invitation,” Trump said to a reporter in Florida when questioned about whether he had extended an invitation to Putin to join the organisation.
