An Air India jet accident near Ahmedabad claimed at least 30 lives, with 242 people on board

“A senior police officer informed reporters that the structure involved in the incident is a doctors’ hostel, stating, ‘We have cleared nearly 70 to 80 percent of the area and will complete the rest shortly.'”

Reports from India’s News-18 indicate that a plane has crashed into the dining area of the state-run BJ Medical College hostel, resulting in numerous fatalities among medical students. A striking image depicted a segment of the aircraft resting on the rooftop of the building.

Rescue workers reported the recovery of at least 30 to 35 bodies from the site, indicating that additional individuals remain trapped.

A source informed Reuters that the group of passengers comprised 217 adults, 11 children, and two infants. According to Air India, the group comprised 169 Indian nationals, 53 British citizens, seven individuals from Portugal, and one Canadian.

According to the aviation tracking site Flightradar24, the aircraft in question was identified as a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, which is recognized as one of the latest advancements in passenger aviation.

The Dreamliner experienced its inaugural crash, marking a significant event for the aircraft that has been in commercial operation since 2011, as reported by the Aviation Safety Network database. According to Flightradar24, the aircraft involved in Thursday’s crash had its inaugural flight in 2013 and was subsequently delivered to Air India in January 2014.

Air India announced on X that they are currently gathering details and will provide further updates soon. “Injured individuals are currently being transported to the nearest hospitals for medical attention.”

Authorities reported that a tragic incident occurred on Thursday when an Air India plane carrying 242 passengers crashed shortly after departing from Ahmedabad, a city in western India. At least 30 fatalities have been confirmed, and officials anticipate that the death toll may rise as the situation develops.

According to Air India, the aircraft was en route to Gatwick Airport, located south of London. Meanwhile, law enforcement officials reported that the plane went down in a residential neighborhood close to the airport.
