On Monday, Russian strikes targeted Ukraine’s capital, Kyiv, resulting in the death of at least one individual. City officials reported that the attacks also ignited a shop and a school.
“Regrettably, we have received reports of one individual who lost their life due to the attack,” stated Tymur Tkachenko, the head of Kyiv’s military administration, in a Telegram message.
In a recent update via Telegram, Kyiv’s mayor Vitali Klitschko reported that four districts of the city have come under attack, resulting in the burning of residential buildings, a kiosk, and a kindergarten.
He noted that the entrance to the Lukyanivska metro station had also sustained damage.
The strikes occur just days following a statement from Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky, who indicated that Kyiv had put forth a proposal for a new round of peace talks with Moscow.
Two rounds of negotiations in Istanbul have thus far failed to achieve any advancements towards a ceasefire. Instead, they have led to significant prisoner exchanges and agreements for the return of deceased soldiers’ bodies.
This month, the Kremlin announced its willingness to persist in negotiations with Ukraine, following US President Donald Trump’s ultimatum to Russia: secure a peace agreement within 50 days or face potential sanctions.
On Friday, the European Union finalised an 18th package of sanctions aimed at Moscow, focusing on Russian banks and implementing a reduced price cap on oil exports. This move is part of ongoing efforts to limit Russia’s capacity to finance its military operations.
