On Tuesday, US envoy Steve Witkoff announced that President Donald Trump is set to convene a meeting on Wednesday to discuss post-war plans for Gaza.
“A significant meeting is scheduled at the White House tomorrow, led by the president, as we work on a comprehensive plan for the following day,” Witkoff stated during a Fox News interview, refraining from disclosing further details.
When questioned about the existence of “a plan for a day after in Gaza,” he referred to the conclusion of Israel’s conflict in the Palestinian territory that commenced in October 2023.
Earlier this year, Trump shocked global audiences with his controversial proposal for the United States to assume control of the Gaza Strip, advocating for the removal of its two million residents to pave the way for new seaside developments.
Former President Trump announced plans for the United States to clear rubble and unexploded ordnance in Gaza, envisioning the region as the “Riviera of the Middle East.”
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu expressed support for the proposal, despite facing significant criticism from numerous European and Arab nations.
Witkoff refrained from providing details about the plan he promoted on Tuesday, yet expressed confidence that individuals would recognise its robustness and well-intentioned nature.
The conflict in Gaza ignited following Hamas’s assault on Israel in October 2023, leading to the loss of 1,219 lives, predominantly among civilians, as reported by an AFP count derived from official statistics.
According to figures from the health ministry in Hamas-run Gaza, which the United Nations deems reliable, Israel’s retaliatory offensive has resulted in the deaths of at least 62,819 Palestinians, the majority of whom are civilians.
